  1. Background:

The year is 2042. NASA’s Kepler and TESS missions, along with ground-based observatories, have discovered thousands of exoplanets – planets orbiting stars other than our Sun. The discovery of potentially habitable exoplanets has sparked a new era of space exploration, igniting children’s imaginations worldwide. Our game centers around the “Exoplanet Explorers,” a virtual program run by NASA, designed to educate young scientists about the wonders of exoplanets and the scientific process of their discovery. The program uses advanced simulations to immerse children in realistic scenarios, allowing them to participate in virtual missions and learn about different types of exoplanets, their atmospheric compositions, and the challenges of interstellar travel. This builds upon the real-world advancements made by NASA’s Kepler mission (launched in 2009), which revolutionized exoplanet detection by using the transit method to identify thousands of planetary candidates, and the TESS mission (launched in 2018), which expanded the search to brighter, closer stars.
